The history of the Cummins engine company is rooted in racing. The company was founded by a man named Clessie, and racing has been an integral part of the Cummins engine's history. The company has grown through racing and has been a part of many Cummins engines' successes. Today, there are many different types of Cummins engines, including the new 12 valve variety. The story of the Cummins engine company doesn't end with racing, however.

12 valve cummins engine
The 12-valve Cummins engine has been around for almost two decades. The first version of the engine was introduced in 1989. It was mechanically injected and had a Bosch P7100 injection pump. It was able to produce torque figures that were unheard of at the time. In 1994, a new model was introduced with a P-Pump injection pump. It had many improvements over its predecessors, including a new intercooler.

The 12-Valve Cummins engine was able to reach new heights of power. It had 160 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, which was a feat back then. It was easy to see that this type of engine was a step in the right direction. These new engines were not as prone to problems and were more efficient than their predecessors. This made maintenance and repairs easier than with a conventional V8.

The first version of the 12-valve Cummins engine was produced in 1989. The 5.9L 12 valve Cummins engine had 230 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. This engine used a P7100 inline injection pump. Currently, this engine is used in light duty trucks and medium duty trucks. The cast-iron block and crankshaft combined with mechanically regulated direct injection allow for excellent fuel efficiency.

new cummins engine
A new Cummins engine is coming to the market in the near future. This new fuel-agnostic platform is expected to feature a wide range of engine versions derived from a common base engine. Engine versions will share most of the same components below the head gasket but feature different components above the head gasket. All versions will use the same fuel, but their camshaft grinds will be different. This commonality between the new fuel-agnostic platforms is meant to reduce costs and improve reliability, while still allowing customers to choose the most appropriate engine for their needs.

The new engines also include a wastegate turbocharger. Air management on the new engines is simplified, and Cummins has eliminated the variable geometry turbo, which is expensive to maintain and can cause damage to the engine. New power cylinders also reduce parasitic losses by using an outside diameter biased liner and improved seals. The new Cummins engine has been optimized for fuel economy, and the company is recommending a new water pump design instead of a tubocharger.

The new Cummins engine was introduced at the end of October last year. The company aims to meet stringent emissions regulations, while offering superior power and performance. The new Cummins X15N is part of Cummins' Destination Zero aspiration, which is to produce net-zero emissions products by the year 2050. The company hopes to continue expanding its product line to meet the demands of the mining industry.
